Chlorine, Chloramine & Chemical Removal Systems and Filters

Are you concerned about chemicals such as Chlorine or Chloramine entering your house, your body, and your clothing? A Chloramine Removal System is the answer to City Water problems.

Chlorine is a chemical put in Naples and Fort Myers municipal water supply. It is necessary to kill bacteria and other harmful living organisms in the water, but if it kills bacteria what is it doing to us?

Chlorine and chloramine are known carcinogens, which means they are proven to cause cancer. Unfortunately, other healthier methods of disinfection are not practical for large water treatment plants like the ones we have here and which are common in most every city in the US.

If you think about what happens with most of the water produced by the city, it really doesn’t make sense to treat the water any other way. But what about our health and the adverse effects of using and drinking water with chemicals in it?

What Can We Do?

The answer to this problem is both simple and cost effective: We must install a chloramine removal system at the entry of our home. This is a special type of filter that will remove just about every chemical, including chlorine and chloramine. The processes used by the Chloramine Removal System use a few simple treatment methods: Oxidation, Redox and Filtration.

Learn More About What We Do

Oxidation is the process oxidizing contaminates in the water.  Different elements are introduced via an injection port and the water is run through a series of retention or mixing chambers allowing the time needed to oxidize the contaminate, so that it can be more easily removed by filtration media.  Some of the elements commonly used to oxidize contaminates in water are air, ozone, and hydrogen peroxide.  The Chloramine Removal System we most commonly install uses an air injection port on the control valve.

Redox is the process of using a catalyst media to change soluble cations which is then filtered out of the water and easily removed by backwashing.

Filtration is the process of trapping certain contaminates via a filter or filter media which after reaching its capacity is then cleaned itself or replaced.

Carbon filtration has long been used in the removal of chlorine, but regular carbon media is basically useless against chloramines.  Unfortunately, any regular carbon filters will not last long and will not reduce chloramines.  If we only had straight chlorine in our water this would be a viable solution, but as stated before we have chloramines.

The proper way to remove chemicals and chloramines from our city water is to use a combination of a special type of carbon called catalytic carbon as well as a copper and zinc alloy called KDF.  These are expensive medias, and the carbon would only last for a year or two at best on it’s own, and the KDf is even more expensive, often being sold by the once…But with the combination of high quality catalytic carbon and a smaller amount of KDf in an air injection backwashing filter, we get a water treatment system that will last for decades and filtration media that may last in excess of 10 years (in many circumstances) and it requires little to no maintenance.

Chloramine filters are a chemical free proprietary combination or all the above treatment technologies in one machine.  When your water enters the compact tank open air chamber, it is aerated, and the oxidation process begins.  The water then goes through layers of media, redox media and filtration media.  The chloramine filter is backwashed and recharged when the water is not in use.  During this process the media is cleaned, and the contaminates are sent down the drain.  With minimal maintenance this system will provide chlorine and chloramine free water for many, many years.

Chloramine filters are sized according to your needs and the amount of chloramine in your water.  Call for a quick and easy free quote today!
